Hello Fellow Tri-city Citizens,

Tri-City Citizens Alliance thanks you for your support & participation in the meeting on June 9, 2009. This issue of annexation affects all of our lives. Your attendance, we believe, demonstrated to the Douglas County Commissioners that there is a significant number of Tri City residents that are very disinterested in being annexed into Myrtle Creek.

We are honored and proud to live within a Community of people that stand united as one.

We thank both Susan Morgan and Keith Cubic for their participation, support, and promise to take this issue up with the City of Myrtle Creek on our behalf. We are looking forward to reading the Commissioner’s letter to the City.
The meeting itself was very well attended, with people streaming out of the hall through the entryway. Unfortunately, some were turned away simple because there was not room. We apologize for that; we hoped for a good turnout, but were surprised by just how many of you that attended. While the next meeting is scheduled at the V.F.W, we will take a look at finding a larger meeting place if it looks like attendance will be just as high.
There were a number of questions & answers fielded by Susan Morgan and Keith Cubic at the meeting. Generally their answers were well received by everyone, there was however, an issue raised regarding the possibility of previous votes opposing annexation that may have taken place back in 1991. The Board is committed to researching this issue and reporting back our findings to you at the next general meeting.

Several residents made compassionate testimonials during the meeting, with perhaps none more so than a Veteran, advancing in years, who, living on a tight budget, was upset and deeply concerned about the possibility of losing his home should his property taxes go up as a result of being annexed into Myrtle Creek. This folks is why we attend the meetings in which we do.

We collected donations totaling $258.00 after the meeting. With several people asking, “Who do we make the check out to”? We will be researching how we can open up a Checking Account for the TCCA as a not for profit organization. Because we are a not for profit organization, the donations will not be tax deductable, and all donations will be used for the sole purpose of running operations of the TCCA. Thank you for your financial support.
Our Community has just over 4,000 residents. About 2,278 of them are registered voters, with many of our children coming of age every year. It is important that we encourage them to register to vote. Only by doing so do we insure that our priorities are heard and listened too by our elected officials. This time around, we can all be thankful that we have a Douglas County Commissioner that takes our concerns seriously enough to attend our meetings, listen to our objections, and take action on our behalf . . . but what about the next time? Get registered to vote, it really does matter.
The Board is in the process of researching the rules and regulations of getting either a local or state measure, or both added to the ballot regarding annexation. This makes it even more important to have as many registered voters as possible. Your vote is your power!

Remember, our next meeting is at the VFW, July 14, 2009 at 7:00p.m.
