The Myrtle Creek City Council Meeting held tonight, May 19th 2009, covered a variety of topics with only a brief mention of the annexation issue. Near the end of the Agenda the City Administrator, Aaron Cubic, mentioned that he would be writing a letter to Commissioner Robertson reference a FEW complaints he has received about the issue. Last week Board Member Irvin Whiting spoke with Robertson and after a phone conversation with Cubic, stated that a letter stating that no further action would be taken on the annexation would be written by Cubic.

Also decided at the meeting was a reduction in the number of people serving on the City Planning Commission. They have reduced the number from seven to five, meaning that a majority or quarum was reduced from four to three. This isn't unusual for a volunteer committee, what makes it of interest is that they have also reduced the number of people living within the Urban Growth Boundary from two to one, and that isn't even required as Cubic said MAY live within the UGB. One person representing 4000 people in Tri City and four people representing the 3400 people in M.C. That doesn't indicate much concern or planning for us folks out here in Tri City.

I think this should be welcome news. Such a letter would be a good step towards ending this annexation issue for good.

I still plan to send out my letters to our elected officials. I believe we need to really show we mean business and not become complacent. Is there any way the letter written by Mr. Cubic to Commissioner Robertson, can be made public for us to read?
Thanks, Winterhart
